How Seismic Works
3-D Seismic can show us a picture all the way around a potential gas trap such as a dome, to see that it is closed all the way around and thus able to contain or trap natural gas or oil. The geophysicists can have the seismic computer data to report a scale of amplitudes inside the potential gas trap. Hi-amplitude, or seismic energy, indicates natural gas in the trap. This trap could look like a dome or a square box, known as a fault block.
